calendar

This Upcoming Events section is revised as needed to inform you of events of interest. Dates and times of future events are accurate as of the most recent information available, and are always subject to change due to re-scheduling, conflicts, etc. Please be sure to verify dates and times before committing yourself - this usually can be done on the Wednesday night net. Please inform the Secretary of any other event that should be listed here.

November 25th, 2008 - ARASWF Elections
Some people think that election day was November 4th. It was, but only for local, state and federal matters. The REAL election is at the ARASWF membership meeting to be held on November 25th, when club officers will be elected for 2008.

So, be sure to attend this meeting. It will be the final membership meeting in 2008 (the December meeting is replaced with the annual Christmas Party, when the new officers will be installed).

December 6th, 2008 - Annual Meeting & Christmas Party

The Christmas Party is the club's annual meeting and is the only regularly scheduled social event of the year, and replaces the regular December membership meeting. New club officers for the following year are installed at this meeting. This year, the party begins at 6 pm with cocktails (cash bar) followed by dinner at 7 pm. Nice door prizes will be given away, including at least one item of significant value. It is imperative that the membership support this party, since a minimum number of guests has been guaranteed to the VFW. Cost is only $17.00 per person, and advance deposits are encouraged so we can estimate the number of attendees and be sure to have sufficient liquid refreshments available (and food, too, of course). So, support your club and plan to attend with your wife, husband, boy or girlfriend, or significant other - you'll enjoy yourself and maybe be the recipient of one of the great door prizes to be awarded.

Please RSVP to Bill Reynolds, K2ZEL, at wreynolds39@comcast.net

calendar Welcome back!

We'd like to say "Hello, and Welcome Back" to our seasonal members who are returning to Naples from their homes up north. We hope you will check into the Tuesday night net to announce your arrival. And remember, EchoLink is active so you can keep in touch with your northern friends - simply announce your callsign, press the "*" button, and enter the node number. When finished, press "#" to disconnect. Please remember, too, that our monthly membership meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Golden Gate Community Center starting at 7:30pm. Hope to see you there, and on the air.

Attention All Amateurs
fcc

It's Official! Morse Code Requirement Ended Friday, February 23, 2007. That's when the current 5 WPM Morse code requirement officially disappeared from the Amateur Radio Service Part 97 rules. After that date, applicants for a General or Amateur Extra class Amateur Radio license no longer have to demonstrate proficiency in Morse code. They'll just have to pass the applicable written examination.  Deletion of the Morse requirement -- still a matter of controversy within the amateur community -- is a landmark in Amateur Radio history.
