ARASWF 2010 DUES ARE DUE NOW!

It is requested that you please support YOUR CLUB by sending in your 2010 dues before the January membership meeting to be held on January 26th.

Please make out checks payable to "Amateur Radio Ass'n of Southwest Florida", or simply to "ARASWF".

Below is a sample check that we should all follow, to make it easier to properly identify who has paid their dues for the year, and assure that your callsign will be listed in the ARASWF Roster for 2010 as a paid member.

Please note that in the lower left hand line you should place your callsign, the word "dues", and the year, i.e. "W4XXX - Dues - 2010". Then mail the your check together with a personal data form (discussed below) to:

Amateur Radio Ass'n of SW Florida (or "ARASWF")
P.O. Box 111604
Naples, FL 34108

check

If you received the "Member Personal Data Update" form in the mail together with a dues notice, please enclose that form with your check. If you did not receive this form, then please feel free use the ARASWF APPLICATION FORM to confirm that your current information on file with the club Secretary is correct, or to let us know that your personal information may have changed, such as callsign, license class, address, telephone number, email address, ARRL membership, etc. The ARASWF APPLICATION FORM is available on this page - just click on the "Application Form" button on the left side of this Home Page and print out the form.

calendar Welcome back!

We'd like to say "Hello, and Welcome Back" to our seasonal members who are returning to Naples from their homes up north. We hope you will check into the Tuesday night net to announce your arrival. And remember, EchoLink is active so you can keep in touch with your northern friends - simply announce your callsign, press the "*" button, and enter the node number. When finished, press "#" to disconnect. Please remember, too, that our monthly membership meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Golden Gate Community Center starting at 7:30pm. Hope to see you there, and on the air.

Upcoming Events

calendar

This Upcoming Events section is revised as needed to inform you of events of interest. Dates and times of future events are accurate as of the most recent information available, and are always subject to change due to re-scheduling, conflicts, etc. Please be sure to verify dates and times before committing yourself - this usually can be done on the Wednesday night net. Please inform the Secretary of any other event that should be listed here.

February 12-13-14, 2010 - Orlando HamCation
This annual amateur radio and computer show will be held again at the Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando.  Theme for this year's event is
"Amateur Radio goes on the Digital Road".  Indoor swap tables are available, as is the largest outdoor tailgate area in the Southeast.  For information see the web site www.hamcation.com, or email hamcation@aol.com or hamcation@oarc.org,  or call (407) 814-0434.  Tickets are available in advance for $10., otherwise $12. at the gate, and are good for all days of the HamCation.  Talk-in on 146.76 (no tone), with backup talk-in on 147.015 and 146.82 D-Star.

February 20-21, 2010 - Special Event - Oil Well Park
This Special Event is being planned for Saturday and Sunday, February 20th through 21st, beginning at noon on Saturday and ending at noon on Sunday.  It is hoped that our seasonal members will actively participate, since they are not with us during Field Day in June, and this will be a good way for them to participate in a club activity.

February 23, 2010 - Membership Meeting
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd, at 7:00 pm, at the Golden Gate Community Center - 4701 Golden Gate Parkway, Naples.  This meeting is usually very well attended, with many of our seasonal northern members in attendance, so try to arrive early and renew old acquaintances.  Everyone is invited to attend, including members, former members and non-members.  The final details of the Kewaydin DXpedition to be held April 3rd will be discussed, so please try to attend and plan to participate in this Special Event, which is being planned at this time so our seasonal members have an opportunity to participate.

April 3, 2010 - Kewaydin DXpedition
This Special Event is a fun trip, planned for Saturday, April 3rd.  Plans are in the final stages of preparation.  So far, 15 members have signed up to participate, thus requiring that at least two boats will be needed to cross over to Kewaydin Island.  Fee to cover expenses and lunch is $15.00 per person - please be prepared to pay this fee at the February meeting.

Attention All Amateurs
fcc

It's Official! Morse Code Requirement Ended Friday, February 23, 2007. That's when the current 5 WPM Morse code requirement officially disappeared from the Amateur Radio Service Part 97 rules. After that date, applicants for a General or Amateur Extra class Amateur Radio license no longer have to demonstrate proficiency in Morse code. They'll just have to pass the applicable written examination.  Deletion of the Morse requirement -- still a matter of controversy within the amateur community -- is a landmark in Amateur Radio history.

Net and Repeater Notes
antenna

The primary 146.670(-) club repeater WB2QLP is on the air! PL is 136.5

A second repeater on 145.27(-), also 136.5PL, is now active in east Naples.  This repeater is linked to the 146.67 repeater so that handi-talkies operating in the eastern part of the local area have access to everyone using the 146.67 machine.  At this time, however, echolink access is only available through 146.67.

(Backup 2 meter repeaters are on 146.64(-) - PL 136.5, and the EOC repeater on 147.03(+) - PL 136.5 )

Please join us every Wednesday night at 7:00 pm on the ARASWF Information Net on WB2QLP, 146.670(-), PL 136.5. Members and non-members with or without traffic are welcome.

Echolink is active on 146.67 MHz. Identify with your callsign, then enter " * " before the node number to connect. Enter " # " to disconnect when your QSO is complete.  Our new node number is 389568.

Also join us every Monday night at 7:30 pm on the ARASWF 6-meter net on 50.200, SSB-upper sideband.  Everyone is invited to join this very informal net.

unclesam                    PHOTOS WANTED!

Come on members...

It's time to include a photo of your home station, together with a brief description of your station and equipment, in the  "MEMBERS GALLERY" that is the first choice on the "PHOTOS" page of this web site.

So far, we have only 6 members whose stations are shown in the "Members Gallery", and we need all of you to be there.

Just take a photo of your station (hopefully with you included, but not necessary) with your digital camera, then prepare a few words about your station, and send them both to:  webmaster@araswf.org

Or, if you don't have a digital camera, then send a scan or copy of a photo print instead - we'll do the rest.

It's easy and it's fun, so no more excuses - send your photo and station info today.

So do what Uncle Webmaster (pictured above) says - he's looking forward to being able to publish your photo and write-up soon.
